Armored Collective provides chauffeured armored SUV rental in San Diego, operating B4 to B5 Chevrolet Suburbans and Cadillac Escalade ESVs with vetted security drivers across San Diego County. San Diego is the American end of the busiest land border crossing in the world, and that makes it a genuine operational hub rather than another coastal city.
A meaningful share of what we do here is the northbound half of a cross-border itinerary. A client lands or finishes business in Tijuana, and a San Diego vehicle and security driver collect on the US side. Our vehicles do not cross the border in either direction, and the handover is arranged so the movement continues without a gap.
San Diego International (SAN) sits remarkably close to downtown, often under ten minutes, and its short runway and city-center position make it one of the most convenient arrivals in the country.
McClellan-Palomar (CRQ) serves North County and private aviation. Montgomery-Gibbs (MYF) is the other general aviation field. Cross Border Xpress (CBX) is the enclosed pedestrian bridge connecting directly to Tijuana International, and it is the most useful piece of infrastructure in the region for clients flying into Mexico while staying in the United States.

The drive from San Diego International to downtown typically takes about ten minutes, which is among the shortest airport transfers in the United States. Downtown to Cross Border Xpress typically takes about twenty-five minutes.
Downtown and the Gaslamp Quarter, La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Coronado, Point Loma, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Chula Vista. The border crossings at San Ysidro and Otay Mesa and the Cross Border Xpress terminal are all served.
Northbound border wait times are the single least predictable element in this market. They vary from minutes to several hours with little warning and they are not reliably forecast. Any movement that depends on a crossing is planned to the worst case rather than the average.
Cross Border Xpress changes the calculation entirely for anyone flying into Tijuana. The bridge connects the terminal directly to the US side on foot, and it removes the vehicle crossing from the equation altogether.
Interstate 5 through the coastal corridor is the spine of the county and North County movements live on it. Summer beach traffic on it is worse than most visitors expect.
The major summer convention week is the single tightest period, filling the city's hotels and its ground transport at once. Summer generally is busy along the coast, and the border corridor is steady year round.
California licenses charter-party passenger carriers at state level and any operator carrying passengers for hire should produce its authority on request. Ask for it. If your itinerary involves the border, ask specifically how the handover is arranged and who operates the vehicle on the Mexican side, because a US carrier's authority does not extend across the border.
Armored Collective runs one vehicle platform type deliberately. The armored Chevrolet Suburban and the bulletproof Cadillac Escalade ESV are the most common large SUVs on American and Mexican roads, which means an armored one does not announce itself. Both hold their third row with armor fitted, so a principal, a security driver and a protection detail fit without splitting the party across vehicles. For multi-vehicle movements and motorcades we run matched units so the package looks like one fleet, not three rentals.

Armor level is not a status ladder. Every level up adds weight, slows the vehicle, and wears the brakes and suspension faster. The correct answer is the lowest level that covers the threat you actually face.
Ballistic components in Armored Collective vehicles are rated to EN 1063 for transparent armor and to VPAM APR for opaque armor. EN 1063 is a component standard, not a vehicle standard: it classifies glazing, not finished cars. The only standard that certifies a complete assembled vehicle, including joints, overlaps and glazing interfaces, is VPAM BRV. Ask any provider which standard and which edition was used, which components were tested, and whether the certificate covers the specific unit or the fleet in general. We will send the certificate for the unit assigned to you.
.44 Remington Magnum and lower handgun threats. The common civilian choice where carjacking or an opportunistic approach is the primary concern, and equivalent to what the Mexican market calls Nivel III, which accounts for the large majority of armored vehicles in the country.
5.56 x 45mm NATO. Intermediate rifle threats. Note that EN 1063 does not include 7.62 x 39mm in its test series. If AK-pattern rifles are in your threat profile, ask for a VPAM VR6 certificate rather than a B5 rating.
We do not operate B6 or B7. B6 is tested against 7.62 x 51mm NATO and carries a real penalty in weight, acceleration and braking. If your risk assessment calls for that level, tell us and we will say so rather than sell you something that does not meet it.
